MEET THE CELEBRANT: DWAYNE NICHOLS

MEET THE CELEBRANT DWAYNE NICHOLS

Dwayne Nichols. A gentleman of many, many talents!

You know those confusing Covid Time Press Conferences when the rules were changing every day…? Well amongst us TCS celebrants, instead of panicking we would calmly wait for the measured Dwayne to distil the confusion into things that (almost!) made sense!

When anyone of us in need of any reassurance, assistance or a random fact, Dwayne is there to assist us. Several of us now have a detailed understanding of the dental structures of snails….! #iykyk

We had a chat with Dwayne to find out more about our charming colleague.

Hi Dwayne, where are you based Dwayne?

I’m based in Essendon but for weddings I travel all across Melbourne and regional Victoria.

What’s your favourite thing about being a Celebrant?

I love being able to help people feel a sense of accomplishment : their wedding is a time that they may have dreamt of for a long time, put so much energy and emotion into. I get the privilege of helping them pull it all together.

What’s the number one thing you’ve learnt after being involved in so many celebrations?
Never presume! People and the people around people are complex and do things for a variety of reasons that you may NEVER to be privy to.

What’s your favourite most ceremony beverage?

There’s NEVER not been time for good Champagne!

For you, what’s the best thing about being part of TCS?

A creative, supportive community of professionals who encourage personal and professional growth, that above all you’re glad to call your mates.

You never arrive at a wedding without?

A sense of pride at being invited into a special time of people’s lives, Minties and inevitable some cat hair….!

And finally, because WE love your answer to this question, why did you become a Celebrant Dwayne?

Why did I become a celebrant….?

I’ve studied botany, I’ve worked in law firms doing data management, helped families at risk of homelessness, taught English, and been in the rail industry too. I’ve lived and worked in three countries. So, becoming a marriage celebrant was always a logical and inevitable next step!

I’m motivated by good service, and wanting to make people happy. I understand the trust that goes into the position of helping people do something special, literally transforming their lives.

Having that moment to share is as fulfilling as any other role I’ve held.

It’s a professional challenge to craft a celebration that people enjoy, and a privilege to be chosen to so.

Like, I said, we LOVE that answer Dwayne! Your couples are very lucky to have someone with such a unique skill set be part of their wedding day.
