We caught up with Eddie, on his way home after a long-awaited return to his native Brazil.
Hello lovely Eddie. Where in Australia is home for you?
I’m from Perth, WA.
Your passion for being a celebrant is so inspiring, what’s your favourite thing about being a Celebrant?
My very favourite thing, is the fact that every time I go to work, it’s someone’s best day ever – and I am a part of it. Knowing that cool couples trust me to tell their story in front of their loved ones is one helluva ego-boost.
What’s the number one thing that you’ve learnt since becoming a celebrant?
The one thing I learnt after almost 6 years of celebrancy is that the best ceremony you will write is the next one. I have learned a little bit from each wedding and being able to incorporate all those little improvements every time I write a new ceremony feels great. I make mistakes all the time – but I also only make the same mistakes one time.
Post ceremony – what’s the first thing you reach for?
After a successful ceremony, I can’t wait to down about 2L of water in one gulp – usually I’m talking a lot in the sun, so my mouth is dry AF and this bad boy here respects his hydration cycles.
What do you never arrive at a wedding without?
Nowadays, I think I never arrive at a wedding without cable ties and a Swiss army knife. I have used them countless times to fix several small decorations, hold broken flowers, tie Bridesmaids dresses and whatnot.
Clearly, there is NOTHING that a cable tie cannot do! Especially one in Eddie’s hands!
For you, what’s the best thing about being part of The Celebrant Society?
The Celebrant Society was the single reason why I fell in love with celebrancy!
Don’t get me wrong – I liked it first, but I know that meeting and seeing so many wonderful, colourful, unapologetically incredible celebrants in the wild have filled me with such joy that is hard to describe.
To know that it is possible to be as wild or as bland as you are and yet meet all the requirements to be an awesome celebrant has blown my mind.
Oh! We LOVE this response, Eddie. There is something incredible about the diversity of our members and the skills and talents that they bring to the role of being a celebrant and to our community.
This must be why Eddie has a tattoo of a Flamingo upon himself! Thanks for joining us Eddie. We cannot wait to catch up in person at our upcoming Bali retreat.
