5 MINUTES WITH THE TEAM at BABALOU WEDDINGS

Babalou Wedding

Dani and Jordan share a newly wedded kiss at sunset.

Recently we sat down with the team at Babalou Weddings and Events in the holiday town of Kingscliff in Northern NSW to find out how to choose the best venue, what the current trends are and what advice they would give to anyone getting married or entering the industry these days.

Jodi and Kahlia are the wonder women who attend to every one of their couple’s needs making each and every one of them feel like royalty on their big day. Here’s their advice for couples getting married in 2022:

What should a couple think about when choosing the right venue for the wedding day?

Whether it’s beach or coastal, hinterland or industrial, the venue should reflect who you are as a couple. Location is key so make sure you check out the area as a whole, especially if you’re planning on making a weekend of it.  If you don’t choose an all-in-one venue, think about what ceremony options are nearby such as headlands, beaches, parks or community halls. If people are travelling interstate are there plenty of accommodation options nearby? Is there ample parking? And what post wedding recovery options are available close by. Once you have your perfect wedding venue locked in everything else flows from there.

What colour tones and moods are you seeing most this year?

When it comes to colour, we’re currently seeing a lot of the European terracotta inspired tones with pops of pinks.  Coastal moods are still very strong for us with lots of natural tones such as rattan and fresh greenery.  Many couples are opting for a set themed dress code at the moment too, think all guests in white, or black tie.

What is the most requested menu option or cocktail?

Shared style menus are still very popular and our suspended grazing tables are very sought after. Welcome cocktails are making a comeback and many couples are also ensuring that espresso martinis are available throughout their night as well.

What is your one piece of valuable advice you would give to any couple getting married in 2022?

Have fun with it, don’t sweat the small stuff. Remember the day is about you and your partner.  Take time out from the reception to look back and reflect on the day and appreciate everything, as the day can go by so quick.  Also, trust your suppliers and family to look after things on the day so you can enjoy and relax.

And we wouldn’t be The Wedding Society without asking a couple of vendor related questions:

What advice can you give to new people entering the industry and how to survive within the current climate?

Organisation and communication are key, the more details you have from a couple the better. Being able to think quick and problem solve on the fly is a real bonus. Plus, having a friendly, supportive and empathetic attitude goes a long way.

How can we ensure our mental state remains intact?

You need to set boundaries for your own peace of mind, disconnecting when it’s a day off to have a proper break is more than ok and well deserved.  Enjoy the ride and have fun with it, best thing about events is that every one of them is different, and there’s never a dull moment.

What is your advice for creating an excellent wedding expo?

Pick a great location and/or venue to host it. Engage a variety of vendors from all categories and ensure they create an amazing stand in line with the expo’s brand and offering.

You can read our blog  Celebrants’ Guide to Making Wedding Expos Work for You.

How can vendors maximize their space at an expo?

Have an excellent marketing plan and include offers on the day or some sort of complimentary offer or tasting as these are always a good hook to get people through the door, and more so to your stand.  The more exciting your stall looks the more people will want to engage with you. Remember, you only have a split second to grab someone’s attention.

Babalou is situated right in the middle of town, just across from the beach with 180-degree views of the Pacific Ocean. It offers a fully stocked bar and reception arrangements from stand-up canapes to full sit-down meal.

Kingscliff is the perfect beach front wedding destination, it’s close to Coolangatta airport and there are plenty of awesome hotels and cute Airbnb’s available in and around town.

This stunning wedding is from Dani and Jordan’s special day in April 2021, beautifully captured by Doe and Deer Photography. Dani wears a Grace Love Lace dress, and their wedding was coordinated and managed by the team at Babalou Weddings.
